Today’s Disney theme is Sleeping Beauty (1959). As far as I’m concerned, Snow White (the second in this princess series) and Sleeping Beauty are pretty much the same damn film, just released 22 years apart. The things that annoy me are just the same: passively hanging around cleaning for a flock of short people, being frightened in woods as they sing and grope wild woodland creatures, dreaming of princes, being beautiful and naive and woken up by sleep-creepers.

Or maybe just the one sleep-creeper with a dye job?

There are even videos dedicated to all the similarities:

For some reason the Disney princess franchise has Sleeping Beauty in a pink dress instead of the blue in the movie, probably because to make her less similar to Cinderella (another princess that Sleeping Beauty/Aurora is lazily apeing). Here’s my mani this week:

It’s my first attempt at freehand roses, and I think I did quite well! The main colours used are Nicole by OPI City Pretty Rose, Orly Flare, Essence Make It Golden and Hello Darling Butter Wouldn’t Melt. I have to say, even though I’m not really enjoying rewatching all these movies, I like how the themes make me explore designs I wouldn’t usually wear!

  1. In case you were wondering (which I’m sure you were not) Aurora actually does wear a pink dress in the film. I believe the blue is for “before” the prince, and pink is for “after”.. or something.

Anyway, super cute nail art! Love it. xx

  2. it was my favourite movie!!

aurora wears both a pink and a blue dress… because the fairies make it for her, and two of them fight over the colour, and use their magic to change it. In the last scene when she dances with the prince, she changes colours constantly 😛
    I prefer blue.

I made a sleeping beauty manicure for a challenge, but I based on maleficent:

I didn’t like how it turned out, but she’s the best villain (her plan was SO cruel and evil…) and she can turn into a dragon and has a cool pet. so… go maleficent!! 😀

  3. There are early versions of the Sleeping Beauty story where the Prince rapes her and leaves, and she wakes up nine months later when she goes into labour. At least no one tries to pretend that that’s romantic.

  4. I’ve heard that the early version of Sleeping Beauty was to teach celibacy. It’s a bit messed up if you ask me but I think all the the Disney princess movies are stupid.
