I’ve only recently started exploring lipstick – I’ve been using stains forever, and since Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains came out I’ve been happily trying out some long-wear colour. The main thing keeping me from wearing more lipstick is reapplication, and it’s often a mess before I remember! So predictably, my favourite finish is long-lasting matte.
I was really excited when Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick recently appeared in Australia. It’s available in 6 shades, and I’ve tried out three:
107 – Wine/berry-stain colour. This is the shade Kate Moss wears in the promotional images for the line. It’s a gorgeous not-too bright cool-leaning red that’s actually quite flattering on me! I usually shy away from cooler shades, but this one works, although I still don’t think I quite rock it.
111 Kiss of Life – A classic bright, bold, femme fatale red. It’s my favourite of the three, and I can see it being flattering on a range of skin tones. It’s also the only one with a name, and there’s probably some backstory to this which I don’t know about.
113 – Beige with a touch of pink. I was excited at the prospect of nude lipstick, but unfortunately this is a bit too pale for me, and any uneven application was super obvious. I added balm on top but it still wouldn’t behave entirely. It would work much better with paler skin!
All three lipsticks applied really smoothly for matte lipsticks, and it didn’t feel like I was dragging my lips across my face while putting them on. They’re also not as drying as the other mattes I’ve tried in the past, but they’re also a bit shinier. I have particularly fat lips and they dry out very quickly (sometimes I need to exfoliate them twice a day – these don’t moisturise well enough for me to use them alone for more than a few hours.
I used 111 for a pole competition and it lasted 8 hours with only a few touchups and not much transfer (something I’m really conscious of as I fling myself around upside down with arms and legs flailing all over the place). These are quite scented in the tube but I didn’t notice it when it was on my face. To me they smell rosy with a bit of fruit, which I imagine might be offensive to some people but I really liked it.
Overall, I’m in love with these! 107 and 111 will definitely be on high rotation. Only 6 shades are available in Australia so far (the ones I didn’t try are 103, 106 and 112). I have my eye on a few shades that have been released overseas (namely the warm orangey 106, 109 and 110), and I’m hoping they make their way here soon!
Are you a matte lippie fan? Which matte lipsticks are your favourites?

I’ve also just recently started wearing lipstick, and my favourites at the moment are Illamasqua and Rimmel’s Colour Show Off (the ones in the pink tube). Unfortunately Rimmel seems to be discontinuing them, but you can still find a few colours hanging around. My favourite red is an Illamasqua lippie, but I find the Rimmel ones transfer a little less.
Oh no! I’m going to grab these as soon as I get to a Priceline, thanks for the heads up!
I fell in love with matte lipstick after using MAC Ronnie Red, so I’ll definitely be giving these a go! I’m also super conscious about it rubbing off during the day and transfer, it’s such a bad look. So if these are hard wearing that’s definitely a plus.
That’s why I’m so addicted to stains – put it on in the morning and reapply whenever! But I feel like I need to branch out :
It looks great on you 🙂 I think my lips are not ready yet for matte lipsticks…they just become very dry from them.
Thanks! I have super dry lips, and I’m going to start putting balm on top – apparently the balm goes through the lippie quite well.
I love the look of these, but I agree, I wish the other colours were available here in Aus (especially anything orange!)
I really like the look of the last colour but mainly because I’m super pale, and it looks like something that would go great with my skin!
I do really likt the second one however, it’s so beautiful!
Hope 113 works for you, I wish it worked on me because I’ve seen some lovely swatches around! I go gaga for orange things, I think it’s because my first ever lip stain was orange and it looked so good on me.
I have one of these. I love the finish but the colours are a bit boring and too similar to the original Kate Moss lippies. I wish there were a few brighter mattes.
Me too – the overseas release had some really bright ones I’d love to try!
really nice shades 🙂
They are! I’ll be wearing them all the time this winter 🙂
