I’ve been excitedly waiting for Rimmel Apocalips since hearing about them on international beauty blogs, and they’re just entering Australian stores now. They’re essentially very pigmented lip glosses, which combine bold colour with high shine. They come in gloss-like tubes housing a doe foot applicator with a dent in the middle. There are 8 shades available in Australia, ranging from bright and bold to nude and, well, bold.

Now for some lip swatches:

Stellar is a bold coral, which is incidentally my favourite shade of neon nail polish.

Apocaliptic is bold bright pink. The darker shades wear off to pretty, more wearable stain-like shades. They’re also less messy once the gloss has worn off – I like to apply a sheer gloss over them.

Celestial is a paler pink which is really pretty, but too light for me – I have this problem where when I’m wearing light pink lippie I feel like my lips are holding a revolt to take over my face.

Nova is a pretty medium pink which wears off to a very natural stain.

The good:
– They’re very opaque, pigmented and glossy – the brights are particularly impressive. – The colour stays on your lips for a long time.
– Can be toned down if preferred. – The packaging is pretty nifty – the doe foot applicator with the well makes it easy to apply in a few swipes, and the clear base means you won’t grab the wrong colour.
The bad:
– Because it’s a gloss, it likes to transfer everywhere, which can be messy when it’s also bold. Don’t wear it glossy when it’s windy if you have long hair.
– Again, like other glosses it doesn’t apply very evenly – pressing your lips together will pile the product up.
– Again, because it’s a gloss, it wears off very easily. Not just with meals – even a brush with a tissue can mess it up. Amazingly though, despite the transfer, there’s still a lot of colour that stays on your lips. – Scent – they smell a bit like cucumber, which is unusual for a makeup product, but not entirely unpleasant to me. I’d imagine that it would be too off-putting for some people.

Overall, I really like these, but they’re too high maintenance for me to wear on a regular basis – I’ll be busting them out for special events. The shade selection is decent, but naturally I’m lusting after the colours that weren’t released, especially Big Bang (Rimmel’s classic true red which I have to get in all the products). Galaxy (mauvish pink) and Luna (pastel orange) are another two which have been on international blogs that we may hopefully see on our shores soon! You can score these in Priceline (where there’s currently a sale) and other Rimmel stockists, as well as a few places online. 1. These are so pretty and I am so sad that Rimmel isn’t sold here anymore. Luckily I found them online at Asos and got Big Bang and Celestial and I love them!

  2. Thank you for the useful swatches! I think I will be passing on them though, mainly because I’m not a fan of glosses and these do seem very liquid. Excellent pigmentation though!

  3. Hey there this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering
if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with
HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise
so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
