Red Earth is back in Australia! If you’re a late 90s/early 00s kid like me, you might remember Red Earth stores – they were a bit like The Body Shop but with more emphasis on make-up than body products.

The brand has relaunched in Sephora Sydney, Emporium Melbourne and online with a sleek new look – lots of brown, shiny metallic touches and frosted glass. It’s a big step up from the teen-friendly 90s look.

I’ve tried out a handful of the products and I’m quite impressed – the quality is good, and the prices are really reasonable.

The foundation selection isn’t the most impressive (only 6 shades available) but there are two types available: Face Time Long Wear Fluid Foundation and Miracle Wear Matte Genius Foundation, as well as a bunch of CC creams, primers, illuminators and powders. I’ve only tried Face Time so far. It’s a water-resistant SPF 18 foundation with a dewy, lightweight finish and claims to give 12 hour wear. I found that it lived up to the claims, and it’s blendable to boot.

Colour cosmetics are what I remember most fondly about Red Earth, and the new selection doesn’t disappoint, with 11 blushes, 18 mono eyeshadows, 6 duo eyeshadows and 33 lip colour products, not to mention a bunch of eyeliners and a respectable range of nail polish as well.

My picks are the Pure Colour Lipsticks ($24, available in 20 shades), which are my new go-to lipsticks. They’re moisturising, highly pigmented and wear off evenly. I’m in love with Pinkberry (dark fuschia creme, on the right), though Red Wine (cool plum with very subtle blue-toned shimmer, on the left) is quite nice too. They come in different finishes, including matte and sheer. I’m also getting a lot of use out of the Colour Flash Velvet Radiance Blush in Sun Dance ($24), which looks a bit pastel and chalky in the pan but ends up natural and flattering on the cheek.

You can find Red Earth at Sephora Sydney, Emporium Melbourne and online.

  1. OMG a trip to Red Earth when I was a teenager was heaven! I remember being so thrilled when I booked in to get my formal makeup done in their store!

    • It’s super luxe… but also a bit of a magnet for fingerprints, as you can see from the bronze lid. But easy to clean! 🙂
