It’s December already! As I mentioned in my gift guide a few days ago, OPI has a new collection out for Christmas, which includes a new gold leaf top coat, like The Man With the Golden Gun from last Christmas’s Bond collection. Here’s Pure 18K White Gold and Silver Top Coat, over Zoya Monica.

It’s funny that it’s called “Pure”, because that’s exactly what coloured gold isn’t – pure gold is 24K and yellow in colour (like in The Man With the Golden Gun), and is only made of gold atoms. White gold is mixed with other metals (such as nickel) to make a paler alloy.

I have to say I prefer the yellow gold version, but this is very pretty too. The base of the polish is light yellow, which is a bit irritating for layering over light colours, but this looks far better over dark colours anyway! It comes in a lovely quilted-look box, which would make a great gift for your local nail polish addict. In Australia, it retails for $39.95 and is available now.

  1. Just have to say that I honestly HATE how OPI does the bottles on these leaf topcoats! I mean… You can’t *see the polish*. (Unless there is some viewing window on the back??) So how do you know how much is in there, or how dense the leaf really is, or if you need to buy more, or if it might be due for a bit of thinner, or, or, or..!Maybe I’m getting a little carried away, but the point is I’d never buy a $40 polish if I couldn’t even see it. In my opinion, this also makes it impossible to resell. So a girl gets it, swatches it, claims she doesn’t like it and puts up for sale… who’s to say she didn’t dump half of it into an empty bottle? =/I’ll stick with buying something in a clear bottle… (And definitely not the Sephora OPI version, either. Those bottles are too nasty looking no matter what color they come in, or contain.)
