Video: My Top 6 Favourite Sunscreens

As you might know, I have a spreadsheet of sunscreen reviews to keep track of sunscreens I’ve been trying, and I’ve finally collected 6 sunscreens that have achieved holy grail status. So I thought I’d film a video review of these 6 of my favourite sunscreens, with my updated thoughts on them!

I’ve also included some honourable mentions that didn’t quite make my list.

As always: my skin isn’t your skin, so these sunscreens may not work as well for you. I recommend getting to know your skin so you can work out which products will suit your skin best – you can check out The Lab Muffin Guide to Basic Skincare for more information on this.

  1. Hi Michelle, thank you so much for reviewing Purito Centella Green Level Unscented Sun on your blog earlier! Without you I would never know about it, and it is now my absolute favourite. I like it more than Ultraceuticals! It is so awesome that I find myself using it just as a moisturiser when I’m not even going outside 🙂 I purchased one to try, and now that I had, I’ve got three more tubes coming in the mail. After years and years of searching for the perfect everyday sunscreen I cannot thank You enough for pointing me in the right direction <3

  2. Hi Michelle
I have just purchased the Purito Unscented sunscreen and am even more excited to try it – like you I have always struggled to find a sunscreen that doesn’t clog my pores (I had bad acne as a teenager, but was on Roaccutane and am now more dehydrated and sensitive, but still break out-prone). And have yet to find a sunscreen that doesn’t clog my pores.
Have you tried the Evy sunscreens? And what are your thoughts on their UVA claims and lasting for 6 hours? It’s my boyfriends HG sunscreen along with the LRP Shaka Fluid 🙂
Thank you for a great website/YT-channel – so happy I found it!

    • I’m currently trying out the EVY sunscreens – I’m really enjoying them so far! I’m not sure which UVA claims you’re referring to though, do you have a link?

      Good luck with the Purito!

  4. Hi Michelle,

Before I begin, I must tell you that I really think that you do the lords work and I am forever grateful!

Question is how to mix Vitamin C and sunscreen. I live in the US, so my only broad spectrum option is zinc, and it seems like it is more effective when used with vitamin C (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3867245/). But I’m worried about mixing alkaline zinc and acidic LAA, do you have any thoughts on this?

    • Zinc oxide in sunscreen should be OK if it’s coated – you can apply the vitamin C under the sunscreen and it should be fine. You could try asking the sunscreen manufacturer if the zinc oxide is coated.

  5. Hi Michelle,

Loved your fact and research based articles on sunscreen. Makes total sense and loved reading your article.

What are your thoughts or research on Korean sunscreens vs European sunscreens like Laroche Posay. How do they compare. I read that laroche posay use Mexoryl which is one of the best uva/uvb in a sunscreen. I have heard lots of opinions on Korean sunscreen but not enough research.

    Many thanks

    David

  6. Great review! I bought the Purito Unscented sunscreen based on this and have been happy with it so far.
But I’m still trying to find a water-resistant sunscreen that I can wear on my face when working out in 90% humidity and 30 degrees Celsius. I’m worried that the normal sunscreen will just get rubbed off when I wipe my face on my shirt.

Do you have any recommendations for sunscreens for these situations?

    Thank you!

  7. Hi! So I got the Mermaid gel sunscreen to try, and I love it so far, but I noticed that it contains silver oxide near the end of the ingredients list. Some cursory Googling turned up claims that applying silver oxide can cause skin sensitization, a blueish discoloration, and some other issues. Do you know much about this specific ingredient? I ask because I know you’ve debunked a lot of beauty ingredient fear-mongering, and I can’t tell whether this is more of the same or a legitimate problem.

Isntree is my first dive into non-USA made sunblock and I love how it feels, although I have yet to test it out in the sun.

    Thank you!! <3
