There are heaps of things I’ve been meaning to try out, but other things get in the way! Here are 4 that I’ve finally tried:

1. Flocking powder nails

Fuzzy flocking powder nail art has been around for ages, but it was only when BYS released their Velvet nail kits that I tried out the BYS Velvet for Nails in Berry Basket*. It’s less messy than I expected, but it’s still pretty difficult to get an even coating that lasts. I quite like the look of the stripey tape design I tried, but I’ll have to experiment further to get it looking presentable!

2. Budget makeup brushes

There are so many great reviews on Makeupalley for budget makeup brushes that work just as well as expensive brushes, but most of the brands aren’t easily found in Australia. Luckily, Fashion Addict stocks a range of Essence of Beauty brushes, some of which come in twin sets for $9.95.

I was sent the Essence of Beauty Eye Shadow, Powder, Control Powder and Blender brushes* to try. They’re dense, soft and don’t shed. Fashion Addict stocks a bunch of other products which are hard to find in Australia, often at discounted prices, although sometimes the range is limited. There’s free shipping for orders over $40, which is great with the ridiculous, rapidly rising AusPost prices! I also received a few other items I’ll be reviewing soon.

I also recently scored a set of Crown brushes on Ozsale. You really have to look out for things on Ozsale to catch a bargain – this 15-brush set cost me $32 plus shipping. They’re really good quality for brushes that cost less than $3 each, and come in a handy magnetic-secured roll. Here are four that I’ve been using quite a lot lately:

3. Hair chalk

I had a run-in with some cheap chalk I ordered from Groupon, but that led to massive disappointment – none of the colours showed up on my black hair, plus the dry chalk made my hair tangle up beyond the point of no return, and I ended up chopping the bottom three inches off in despair.

So I was understandably hesitant to try chalk again, but the lure of chalk that could work on dark hair was too much. Fudge Urban Colour Chalk* does indeed work on my hair! I’m looking forward to trying some other colours later, since white isn’t great for anything by itself, apart from making me look grey…

4. Urban Decay

I’ve wanted to try Urban Decay forever – the lovely Michaela of Lather Rinse Repeat helped me get some from the recent US site sale. I’ll be reviewing the Deluxe shadow box (which comes with a mini tube of Primer Potion) and the Afterglow cheek tint in Fetish soon!

What have you taken way too long to try? Let me know in the comments!

    • I’ve wanted to try Milani for ages, but they’re not super easy to find here 🙁 We do have some great homegrown drugstore brands though, to dull the pain!

I also have wanted to try hair chalk but unsure of how it would come out on dark hair. They stock it in priceline now but I am hesitant..

  4. I love the idea of hair chalk but the one I tried just wasn’t worth the effort. I have quite dark hair and used a red, and the colour was excellent but even after setting it with the hairdryer, then the straightener (which ended up a red mess), then hair spray it STILL ended up all over everything.

I do love flocked nails though! I think I’ve got about 12 colours of flocking powder. I think it cost about $6 for a 4 pack at Lincraft.

    • Oh yeah, my first hair chalk experiment was frightening – when I used red it looked like I’d murdered someone in the bathroom! It was very Lady Macbeth.

That’s a bargain, I’ll have to look into it! 🙂
