Mary Kay have some exciting new colour products out – I’ve been lucky enough to road test them! Here’s what I thought…

Cream Eye Colors

I am a huge fan of Maybelline’s Color Tattoo range so I was excited to see that Mary Kay have released some too. There are 4 colours out:

Meadow Grass – grassy green

Coastal Blue – deep aqua

Glacier Gray – pink-tinged medium grey

Violet Storm – greyish purple

All 4 shades contain fine shimmer and go on the skin with a solid shimmery effect. They glide on very smoothly, unlike the sticky Maybelline Color Tattoos, and they dry very quickly and don’t crease as much. On the flip side, this means that they’re not quite as good as an eyeshadow base. I prefer wearing these alone, and the Color Tattoos as a base. The Mary Kay shadows are very wearable colours that can be layered to give a bolder colour, but with just one layer they’re a really subtle way of adding colour to your eyes. My favourites for work wear are Glacier Grey and Meadow Grass, but the other two aren’t far behind!

True Dimensions Lipstick

There are 4 new shades of True Dimensions lipsticks out. These are very moisturising lipsticks with sheer but buildable glossy colour, in the same style as Revlon’s Lip Butters, but with better lasting power. The 4 new shades are:

Citrus Flirt – bright orange-toned red

Tangerine Pop – pastel-tinged orange-coral

Sassy Fuchsia – bright vivid pink

Berry a la Mode – maroon

They’re quite moisturising but the colour slides around a little, so a dark colour like Berry a la Mode wears off a bit patchily. My favourite is Sassy Fuchsia, a bright vivid pink that wears off to leave a pretty stain behind.

The lipsticks are housed in sleek silver tubes. You press down on the clear window and the lipstick pops out the other end – super cool!

NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss

There’s also a 4-set of new lip glosses out. They come in very wearable shades:

Mango Tango – a reddish orange that shows up a flattering red on the lips

Rock and Red – bright red creme

Pink Luster – shimmery purple-tinged pink

Berry Tart – shimmery light purple

All of these have a great texture – they are very nourishing and shiny with a pleasant vanilla scent, without being too sticky or sickly sweet. It pretty much feels like a lip balm, and moisturises like one too.

They’re quite pigmented for glosses – they give a pretty wash of natural-looking colour. The glosses give a nice smooth finish, wear quite long for a gloss (they last through a few cups of tea) and fade evenly. If you like glossy lips, these are definitely worth a go!
