Today’s post is from SkincareHQ, and is on a topic that I’m yet to master – flawless foundation. I still haven’t managed to find a heavy coverage foundation that won’t break me out, but once I do, I’ll be using Rule 3!

BLUR MOAR.

Flawless foundation can be achieved much easier than you might imagine. It doesn’t take hundreds of dollars and extensive time to make your skin look picture perfect. In fact, it doesn’t take much money or time at all. Just follow these three very simple rules for flawless foundation and you will see exactly what I mean!

Rule One: Choose appropriate colours and tones with makeup appropriate for your skin type

I’ll confess: if you choose the wrong colour, your foundation will simply never look right. Take your undertones into consideration as well, because if the basic colour is correct but the undertones are wrong, you will still end up looking anything but naturally beautiful. Choosing the right foundation for your skin type is also essential. The best foundation for dry skin or oily skin can make all the difference in the world. Choosing a foundation for dry skin when you have oily skin can make you more oily, while the other way around you can end up even more dried out.

Rule Two: Start with primer, and set with powder

If you want truly flawless foundation, you can’t simply expect it to work its magic all on its lonesome. You must first start out, before ever applying your foundation, with a primer. This helps to create a smooth canvas that your foundation can easily glide onto. It also helps to provide a little extra coverage for any blemishes or imperfections you have. Once your foundation is actually on your skin, you should then set it with a good powder. This helps to absorb excessive oils and keep your foundation right where you put it for a longer amount of time.

Rule Three: Remember to work in small areas at a time

This is of the utmost importance. You should work in small areas of your face, carefully rubbing the foundation into your skin using circular motions. This will help to ensure your foundation is truly rubbed into your skin as well as make sure that your face is completely covered. You can’t just simply throw foundation on your face and then rub it in all willy-nilly like. It takes a little practice and patience, but putting your foundation on the right way makes a huge difference in the end results. If you incorporate those three simple rules into your makeup routine, you will be quickly rewarded with flawless looking foundation. You see, it wasn’t as hard or complex as you thought it was going to be, now was it?

If you have any questions about our rules, or if you would like to offer up some flawless foundation rules of your own, feel free to do so in the comments below. We look forward to hearing what you have to say.

  1. No, don’t use the normal blur option! Use surface blur and then add noise (around 4,5% will usually suffice).

Haha, but seriously speaking, great post. Choosing the right foundation can be a real pain in the ass – and then once you find the perfect one, it’ll be discontinued almost right away… That’s what happened to me anyway! :< There are so, so many things you have to take into consideration, I sometimes feel like it’s impossible…

  2. I highly recommend Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation (liquid). I’ve been using it since 2006 and haven’t looked back. It’s a beautiful foundation. Retails at about $90 but worth it. See if you can get a 5ml sample from the counter (they don’t always have them) – they last me 2 weeks of working week use.
